Obituary for Kathy Ann Parlier

Kathy Ann Fortune Parlier, age 59, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11th, 2019.


Kathy was born on December 29, 1959 in Avery County. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and the late Bonnie Johnson Fortune of Newland.

She is preceded in death by her Parents; sister, Viola Fortune; loving ex-husband, Walter “Dood” Pritchard and step son Little Dood Pritchard.

Kathy loved visitors and sharing a cup of coffee anytime of the day while spending time catching up, laughing, listening to music and telling stories. She had a strong Christian faith and loved watching Joel Osteen preach. Kathy enjoyed going out to eat and shopping with her brother, Ricky. Kathy loved her family and friends, she never met a stranger and opened her heart and her home to many people. She was often on Facebook leaving comments, sending encouraging notes of love and laughter. Nothing pleased Kathy more than spending time with her precious grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her: daughters Kim Storie and her bulldog Bo, Sabra Hornbuckle and husband Robert, step daughter Carletta Eastman, along with her loving sister Janice Pyatte and husband Bobby, brother Ricky Fortune and his partner Jody. Her grandchildren, Dakota “Cody” Smith and his girlfriend Ellen, Kelsi Smith and boyfriend Zach, Kathryn Smith, J.J. Storie, Shawn Arnold Jr., Elizabeth Pritchard, Sloan Pritchard, Alosha Eastman, Svetlana Eastman, Sawyer Eastman and Skylar Eastman. Kathy also has her niece Bobbie McClellan and great nephews Josh and Jordan McClellan along with four great grandchildren.

Honorary pall bearers: Tracy Young, Jake Taylor, Shaun Hartley, Norman Carpenter, Jarrod Banner, Scott Love, Robert Trice, James Smith, Danny Childress, Travis Taylor and Lance Wiseman


A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Rock United Community Church in Newland with Rev. Jimmy HIcks and Rev, Roger Wise officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Please join us for this memorial.
The care of Kathy and her family has been entrusted to Thomas Murray Funeral Service Licensee In Morganton, N.C. 828-757-1000

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up an account to contribute to funeral expenses at First Citizens Bank in Newland. The account is directly associated to these specific expenses and is titled under “Kathy Fortune Parlier Funeral Account”.
